SAN YSIDRO — Border agents seized more than 2,200 pounds of marijuana valued at $1 million in a van whose driver sped through the port of entry Thursday, authorities said yesterday.

A drug dog alerted U.S customs officials to the white Ford van with Mexican plates in line to cross the border about 1:30 p.m., said Vincent Bond, spokesman for U.S. Customs and Border Protection.

The driver responded by speeding ahead, ramming another vehicle and shredding all four tires. The van was driven on rims until the passenger and driver bailed from it on Interstate 805, Bond said.

California Highway Patrol officers retrieved the van and towed it back to the border, where the marijuana was found.

The driver and passenger have not been found.
