Multiple Options for Broomfield Council

After a City Council study session today, Broomfield could take initiative to either regulate medical marijuana dispensaries or ban them entirely. City and County Attorney, Bill Tuthill shared that the council members will be presented with a list of policy proposals by the City and County Attorney's Office, which could be enacted in the wake of new state laws regulating the industry.

Tuthill shared that there are ample options, including banning dispensaries, setting up a local regulatory scheme or putting an idea on the ballot in November that would let residents weigh in.

A six-month moratorium on granting business licenses to medical-marijuana dispensaries was enacted by Broomfield in the month of February. The city leaders will get a chance to view what other communities were doing and this way the city will have ample time to craft its own policy.

Tuthill said, "We're not currently aware of anyone who's operating illegally".
