2.How close does a plant have to be for Mylar to be effective?

3. Can ANYBODY plz answer my question regarding Switchable vs Digital Ballast?

1. no, it's not needed,
2. light strength decreases with distance, so I'd say within 1 foot.
3. Switchable vs Digital Ballast? you are comparing 2 different things.
you should ask what;s the diff between
switchable vs non-switchable
and
digital vs magnetic

a switchable ballast is one that can use an HPS bulb or MH bulb.
a non-switchable one is HPS or MH specific.

a digital ballast is one that uses digital technology to power the bulb, these are quiet and produce little heat.
a magnetic ballast uses old school wire wrapping technology to power the light, these have a distinctive hum that gets louder as they age and produce heat.

Thank you Joe. However, Im not sure that you answered my question in the previous post. It seems that digital will run both MH and HPS bulbs as will a switchable ballast (the latter of witch im VERY clear on,which is why I asked the question in the 1st place). However. The digital ballast tend to be less expensive. Im just trying to figure out why and which one I should purchase in order to Veg with a MH buld and Flower with a HPS bulb.Any and all clarrification is welcomed and appreciated. Again. Thanks Joe.

I think what you want is a switchable digital ballast .

all digital ballasts are not switchable

you can also look into a conversion bulb, I believe these are hps bulbs (with the ignitor built in) that will run in an mh fixture
