NET agents face danger during recent drug busts

Agents with the Polk County Police Department Narcotics Enforcement Team faced several dangerous situations during two recently successful drug investigations, said Polk County Police Chief Billy Wills.

A NET agent was attacked during an Aug. 10 raid, which yielded suspected marijuana and several schedule III narcotics.

Arrested was Kathy Deanna Morgan, 39, of 2206 Cedartown Highway, Rockmart, who was charged with possession of schedule III narcotics and possession of drug related objects. Also arrested was Tembria Jill Vlacich, 38, of the same address. She was charged with aggravated assault of a police officer, tampering with evidence, obstruction of a police officer, possession of tools for the commission of a crime and possession of marijuana.

Agents executed a search warrant at 2206 Cedartown Highway, Rockmart, and recovered suspected marijuana, several schedule III narcotics and multiple instruments used to distribute and consume illegal narcotics.

During the search, Vlacich attempted to stab a NET agent with a syringe. The female was quickly secured and placed under arrest without any agents receiving any injury. On Aug. 19, agents again faced danger when a suspected threatened the lives of several NET members.

Agents responded to 711 Old Atlanta Highway, Rockmart, in reference to a follow up investigation of a drug complaint. As the agents knocked on the door of the trailer and announced their presence, the person inside the dwelling shouted, advising the agents to leave him alone or he would kill them.

Agents then made physical contact with the suspect, identified as 26-year-old Floyd Dewayne Olinger, and insured the safety of the area.

Olinger was then placed under arrest and a search incident to the arrest was conducted leading to the discovery of suspected methamphetamine, suspected marijuana and several instruments used to distribute consume and manufacture illegal narcotics.

He was charged with terroristic threats and acts toward a police officer, possession of mathamphetamine, possession of marijuana, possession of methamphetamine with intent to distribute and possession of tools for the commission of a crime.
