Oceanside City Council Passes Medical Pot Moratorium

The Oceanside City Council has temporarily banned medicinal marijuana dispensaries.

The council passed a 45-day moratorium Wednesday night designed to give officials time to come up with regulations.

Supporters say it will keep crime and illegal drug sales out of the community. Opponents say local medical marijuana laws need to be consistent with existing federal laws.

Dion Markgraaff| from Americans For Safe Access says, "What we're saying to the district attorney is let us know what the policy is so we don't have to go through another round of raids, more people arrested and wasting lots of money and being cruel to everyone in San Diego."

The sale and use of medical marijuana has been legal in California since 1996.
