MINNEAPOLIS - A Minnesota man faces federal charges after more than 1,000 marijuana plants were found at his Minneapolis security business, near a library, according to a complaint filed Thursday.

Police found 200 more plants, 14 guns and thousands of rounds of ammunition at 50-year-old John A. Larson's home in Golden Valley, Minn. His homes on Gull Lake in Nisswa, Minn., and in Wakefield, Mich., also turned up more pot plants.

The number of growing locations, the sophistication of the equipment and the number of plants seized made this a substantial marijuana growing organization, said Skip Van Patten, assistant special agent in charge of the Minneapolis office of the Drug Enforcement Agency.

Melvyn Robins, 61, of Maple Grove, and Ronald Martinez, 36, of Minneapolis, were charged with aiding in the manufacturing of marijuana, intent to sell and use of premises to store the drug.

If convicted on all counts, each man faces a minimum of 10 years in prison.
