Question about reservoir system

so i plan on using a reservoir system, but i'm finding it very difficult to locate styrofoam/perlite/vermiculite mixes. my question is- as long as i dont use water nutes can i use soil without any problems? i'm open to suggestions too. thanks

I would like to help but I hav'nt got the foggiest idea what your try to ask. Could you maybe reword the question or add a few in the middle somewhere? Are you asking if you need to water the soil?
