A group trying to legalize cannabis took to the streets of Johnson City to garner support Saturday. The rally was organized by Green Cross Tennessee, a cannabis advocacy group.

The group walked to the corner of University Parkway and West State of Franklin, all the while yelling slogans like "Cannabis Can Cure."

Organizer and Green Cross Tennessee's Washington County representative, David Michel, said this they want to spotlight the medical uses of cannabis.

"So many different conditions from mental issues with PTSD, depression, anxiety, to physical ailments," Michel said, "and it's a strong factor in helping with MS, fibromyalgia. The list is seemingly endless and growing everyday."

People we spoke to at the rally say they or those they know would benefit from medicinal marijuana.

"I believe people should have an alternative to be able to medicate," said rally supporter Joe Castle. "I don't think that they should have to use synthetic forms of drugs and pills and things like that."

Michel said the next rally will span across the state of Tennessee and is scheduled for April 23.
