A ROOFER avoided being sent to prison after being caught in possession of drugs. Daniel Leece, aged 19, was stopped by police in Chorley New Road, after officers on patrol saw a Vauxhall Corsa being driven erratically on April 1. Leece, of Greenland Road, Farnworth, was laughing uncontrollably and officers spotted cannabis in the car, worth £10.

Samantha Cole, prosecuting, told Bolton Magistrates Court, that Leece became abusive and threatened to spit in their faces. He was arrested for driving whilst unfit, but tests proved negative. Leece pleaded guilty to posession of a Class C drug.

The court heard that in May, 2007, Leece was sentenced to 12 months in a young offenders institute, suspended for 24 months, for being concerned in the supply of class A drugs.

Although he was in breach of the terms of his suspended sentence, magistrates decided not to invoke it, instead fining Leece £100.
