Running lights off of car batteries?

Anybody done it? I'm looking at getting a ride-in-place stand for a bicycle and hooking up a battery charging kit to it. I'd like to run two HPS lights, but I don't know the limitations of the car battery or how long it would last between charging. Someone has to have tried this.

Why?

Really? The bicycle kit would be nice in case of a blackout, but if I have access to a bunch of high quality car batteries for free, and I can recharge them for free, why the f@#$ would I want to pay the extra $40-$50 per month PER 1000W light?

car battery to 1000watt hps / mh = idk the power transfer method you'd use.
but at 9 amps and the battery being like 70 amp hours? might be changing 2 battery's a day.
could run a smaller light set in a small box.
