A San Jose police officer shot and wounded a suspect who was trying to escape after a resident was shot during a burglary attempt at a marijuana grow house Tuesday night, the Mercury News reports.

The officer responded about 11 p.m. to a 911 call of a home-invasion robbery on the 500 block of Locust Street in downtown San Jose. According to the paper, the officer shot the man in the leg after he got into a car whose driver tried to run over the officer, a department spokesman said.

Police had initially released very vague details of the shooting. Turns out Tuesday night’s events involved at least four people. Police have made two arrests — James Kaufusi, 20, of East Palo Alto and Lulnani Kailahi, 30, of San Francisco — and are looking for a third man, Aminiasi Ofa, 22, of East Palo Alto. They have not released the identity of the San Jose man who was injured by the officer. The resident who was shot inside the grow house was not seriously injured.

Police also did not say whether the operation was legal.

Police have asked anyone with information to call the department’s robbery unit at 408-277-4166 or, to remain anonymous, Silicon Valley Crime Stoppers at 408-947-STOP.
