The sentencing of former Gallatin County Sheriff Raymond M. Martin on federal marijuana dealing and witness tampering convictions has been postponed.

Martin, 47, was scheduled for sentencing Jan. 11 in U.S. District Court at Benton, Ill. Martin's defense attorney has filed an objection to the government's presentence report, resulting in a delay in sentencing. The hearing has been rescheduled for Jan. 19 at 8:30 a.m.

Martin remains in jail awaiting sentence on 15 counts of marijuana dealing, firearms offenses, witness tampering and attempting to conceal financial assets from federal investigators.

On the most serious of the convictions — carrying a firearm during the commission of a drug-trafficking crime — Martin faces from 25 years to life in prison.

The government is also seeking forfeiture of Martin's $300,000 home at 9400 Sawmill Road in Junction, Ill. and $34,400 in cash that Martin's wife, Kristina, withdrew from various bank accounts in an alleged attempt to avoid government seizure.
