Storing seeds

Unfortunately the special seeds I purchased cannot be planted for maybe 1 year or until some space is free-uped.
Is there a shelf life and/ or a proper way to store seeds?

I usually keep mine in the plastic zip bags, put in a dvd case in a dry area, I've had some in there for a year and they germ no problem.
