Thrips

I believe the beastie described as thrip larvae in a picture is a springtail a bit like the one below....

Looks like about the same numbers of body segments to me. Thrips should have many more body segments.

Unfortunately I don't seem to have a Thrips larvae pic in my collection.....I'll see if I can get you one but I don't expect to be able to find until summer.

The springtail pictured above lives in the soil and eats rotting vegetable matter and won't eat healthy plants. From what I can gather there is one species of globular springtail which has been known to eat live plants but apparently it takes something like a plague of them with nothing dead to eat before they will resort to eating something alive.....I have that species in my garden and have never been able to catch them damaging a plant yet.
