trimming the leaves? and fertilizer ?

my plant is about a month old...maybe 2-3 inches tall...a friend told me that i should trim the leaves now. i have never heard anything about this before. anyone know anything?

also, what kind of fertilizer would you recommend for a cheap budget?

Transplant give it some fish emulsion and dont trim the leaves. Leaves produce the food wich is vital for growth. I think you are getting at topping , wich involves cutting of the main growth shoot to encourage branching.
