As we are getting closer to the 58th U.S. presidential election scheduled for Tuesday, November 8, 2016 we will hear more about the different opinions of the participating candidates. It's the first time that Cannabis has a place in their political agenda.
The last years we have seen a big wave of socio-political developments not only in the U.S. but also in other countries in Americas. What started as an experiment in some states seems that is a success in many ways. Whether it is only medical cannabis use permitted for medical or recreational purposes, the benefits are big in terms of finance.
Cannabis creates a new economy with new niches and products like medical cannabis seeds that is flourishing in many of the U.S. States already. There are many ways that Cannabis boosts the Economy.Let's take a look what the four candidates have to say to convince the American citizens.
Hillary Clinton
The former Secretary of State received the Democratic Party's nomination for president on July 26, 2016. She has expressed her positive feelings for medical marijuana. Recently the Democratic presidential candidate made publicly known (through Maya Harris, advisor to Clinton's campaign) that if she is elected in November she has plans to reschedule marijuana so that is no longer in the same list as heroin, LSD. Hillary's team thinks that "Marijuana is already being used for medical purposes in states across the country, and it has the potential for even further medical use"
Donald Trump
The famous businessman and television personality received the Republican Party's nomination for president on July 19, 2016. His opinion on Cannabis can be found in his website's issues section.
But although he seems to be a hard liner among other comments he declared in one of his speeches, that cannabis should be legalized for medical use (but not for recreational use). Moreover in another statement he said that he prefers letting States to define individually their policies and decide if they like to legalize Cannabis for recreational purposes.
Gary Johnson
The former New Mexico Governor was considered a fiscally conservative governor and now is the Libertarian Party's candidate for president. Although Gary Johnson repeatedly says that he's is not going to smoke cannabis throughout his presidency he has also noticed that "There has not been one documented death due to marijuana," Johnson promised that he will not just lower the class but he will remove the schedule classification, so that Cannabis will not be considered a drug anymore. In another interview said that "Cannabis industry is going to change the world ".
Jill Stein
The Green Party Presidential Candidate stands openly in support of Cannabis. She believes that the time has come to remove Cannabis from the black market and to start regulating the distribution and getting profits out of the Taxes. In her own words "The real danger of marijuana is the violence of the underground drug economy created by prohibition." Marijuana is a drug that is dangerous because it's illegal. It isn't illegal because it's dangerous. There are drugs in use that are far more harmful than marijuana - such as alcohol. Legalize marijuana and the dangers go away. Regulate it so that children can't buy it on the street corner."
