A cannabis farm worth around £4,000 was uncovered during a raid in Middlesbrough.

A 25-year-old woman and a 30-year-old man were arrested on suspicion of the production of cannabis and abstracting electricity after a drugs warrant was executed at Crossfell Road, in Berwick Hills on Wednesday.

Eight suspected cannabis plants were seized in the raid.

A spokesman for Middlesbrough Neighborhoods Policing Team said: "Entry was loudly forced and a suspected cannabis grow was located.

"Officers have seized a number of suspected cannabis plants as well as lights, fans and growing equipment.

"The resident returned, was met by police and was subsequently arrested on suspicion of cannabis cultivation and abstracting electricity due to the meter being bypassed."

The man and woman have since been released under investigation.

It comes after a cannabis farm with plants valued at £60,000 were found at a restaurant .

Stockton Community Drugs Enforcement Team, working with Cleveland and Durham Specialist Operations Unit, executed a drugs warrant at Dusk Till Dawn, in Ramsgate, on August 23.

The two-day operation resulted in arrests and vehicle seizures for driving without insurance, driving without a license and drug driving offences.

No arrests were made at the restaurant address but about 100 plants were recovered.

Police were seen using mechanical saws to cut through the restaurant's shutters and gain access through the front door.
