AVALON —Police received a call at 7 p.m. June 16 about a possible drunk driver with open alcohol containers in the 27th Street Wawa parking lot. Two officers responded to the scene and talked with Daniel Torroni, 18, of Sea Isle City, the driver of the vehicle. The officers noticed a baggie of marijuana hanging out of Torroni’s front pant pocket. A search of the vehicle led to the discovery of over a half-pound of marijuana, individually wrapped in eight one-ounce bags. Also found was a bag with over 50 smaller empty bags, a smoking pipe, and an open beer bottle. The three vehicle occupants were taken into custody for questioning at Avalon Police Headquarters. Further investigation led to possession, controlled dangerous substance and alcohol charges against Kathleen Kavanaugh, 19, of Cherry Hill. A bail of $15,000 could not be met and she was taken to the county jail. Torroni was charged with possession, processed and released. A 16-year-old female was also taken in to custody, not charged and released to her mother.
