Re: Updated: Rick Simpson - Cannabis Oil - The Real Medicine, How to Produce and Use
Sorry I was away from my computer and hate writing on my phone.
I usually get around 8-9 grams per ounce of bud with a high THC strain called Beyond the Brain grown by a friend of mine. If it just cuttings I get a bit less (like 6-7 grams).
By doing a hot extraction you're pulling everything; including the chlorophyll so if you're expecting honey colored oil this is not the way but since I usually pay a steep price for my weed I usually pull as much as I can from it before I stop.
I don't decarb the oil, I decarb the weed (27 minutes @ 250*F for THC, 50 minutes @ 250*F for CBD) and then use 99.9% medical grade ethanol to make the extraction, I actually expose the oil to as little heat as possible after decarb. Fortunately the alcohol I use evaporates at 168*F (76*C) so I just set my temperature to 175*F and wait. I no longer use a rice cooker, if something can boil water it means its outputting way more temperature than 212*F.
I use a NuWave PIC induction cooktop; it gives me precise temperature control even at very low temperatures (it can output an even 100*F on low). I used a coffee warmer before as a "gentle heating device" but the damn thing had hot spots that reached 280*F.
If you are using heating devices that don't have a thermostat (rice cooker/coffee warmer) you could be decarbing without knowing it.
Motoco, just do this before geeking out and spending money; next time you do an extraction and you are about to throw away your product; put all your product in the rice cooker, cover with your solvent and turn it on. When the alcohol starts to boil turn it off and leave covered for 60 minutes. Strain and filter, your alcohol will look like petroleum. Mix with your other alcohol and evaporate, you should get higher yield.
