An important measure to help the state's Industrial Hemp industry with expanded cultivation options and a pathway to market for hemp-derived products has cleared the Oregon Legislature and now awaits the governor's signature.

State Representative Carl Wilson of Grants Pass sponsored House Bill 4060, which will allow hemp farmers to propagate their crops in fields and/or agricultural buildings from seed, cuttings, clones and transplants.

The new law will also create a testing pathway to market for industrial hemp-derived cannabidiol (CBD) products suitable for human consumption.

These expanded cultivation options promote co-existence by allowing hemp farmers to isolate or eliminate pollen-bearing plants — and to focus production on high-value products.

Wilson said the law is normalizing a commodity that has played an important role in our nation's history. He added that hemp is an amazing product, with thousands of known uses - and added that this is a great opportunity to bring the economic benefits of industrial hemp to rural Oregon.
