Wood biochar in hydroponic as beneficial habitat

Hi I am experimenting with hydroponic and coco to hold my beneficial bacteria and fungi. It's working wonders. Now I want to use biochar, amoung other things to allow my beneficials to grow in my rooting clones ez-cloner. Please advise what do you use to hold your things when making hydroponic tea. A coffee filter? but what then? A plastic zip tie to hold it closed? A cotton string?

i got a feeling the coffee filter will rip. Please advise, Thanks?.....cheesecloth?

I have no hydroponic experience but with my saltwater aquarium I use a nylon stocking and just tie a knot.

I plan on using the same technique to hold perlite for a habitat in my upcoming hydroponic grow.
