Would an air conditioner work instead of cutting a hole in the wall ?

instead of putting in a ventalation system in like cutting a hole in the wall and letting air in and makeing a big gap for whatever to get in n putting a screen n whatever over it. I still dont wanna have sumthing were bugs n whatever can crawl in. So would an air conditioner make up for that hole in the wall ?
