I do think it's a great way to prevent light. However my personal experience is more important then light leaking out the zipper would be light coming in during dark period. I think the zipper would be a great idea for anyone that has there tent in a room that could have lights turned on...
If you want ideas for your tent. Every tent I have had, I always end up adding extra bars on the top for hanging lights and filters. Would be nice if they had extra cross bars. Even if the extra cross bars were an add on option so not everyone has the extra cost if they do not require.
I agree the Mars hydro tents are great. I bought two far more expensive tents that were not MH, recently I just got a used MH this tent far exceeds the quality of the two previous tents I have. Any one looking for a tent go MH!

I am also a master electrician. Just keep in mind if you have decideded to use led lights (and have 220v plug installed), that your specific led can run on 220v first of all. Second of all if it is capable of 220v you know how to wire it as most come with a standard 120v cord.
Good luck and...
Fan leaf, I have bought many of the reflector series I seem to find it is cheapest to get directly from the Mars website. I find I save about 10% that way over Amazon or eBay. Especially if you are buying more then 1 at a time they usually have a discount.
