Hello everyone and welcome to our August Members Update.

This monthly post is to keep you informed about what's been going on behind the scenes at 420 Magazine during the last few weeks, introducing you to our valued new and renewing sponsors and highlighting our monthly contest winners.

A special "Welcome!" to all the new members over the last month.

You have joined the friendliest, most mature and comprehensive Cannabis and Hemp website in the world. In return we'd simply ask that you spend a few moments reading our Posting Guidelines. It helps us no end if you can stick to these: it reduces the time we need to spend moderating and advising, allowing us the space to continue maintaining, developing and adding to the website itself.

We've also added a handy shortlist of links which answer the most common "how to" questions about posting and to help you get the most out of 420 Magazine. Welcome New Members – Please Read Before Posting

And why not post a little bit about yourself in our Introduce Yourself forum? It's a great way to start conversations and get initial guidance.

As we do every month, we'd like to extend our special thanks to those members who take the time and trouble to voluntarily welcome members who introduce themselves. They show and share great 420 Magazine positive vibes. Many of you also help us by reporting spam and other infractions, which is much appreciated as we cannot be everywhere. Your support does not go unnoticed. Thank you all!

Reporting the spammers and spambots, who try to take advantage of 420 Magazine's reach at the expense of our paying sponsors and our members, is a great help to our busy team. Please do remember - one report per spammer please. We can quickly find everything we need from a single report. Multiple reports of multiple posts from the same spammer from the same member actually increases our workload in the back. Thanks!

We always say that we wouldn't be here without our Sponsors, however it's equally true that 420 Magazine wouldn't be such a great mission without you, our members. We are always grateful for your presence, contributions, positive energy and spirit of helping others.

420 Magazine SEO: Search Engine Optimization Project
We work hard to keep our community prominent in search engines, so that new friends can find us, learn, enjoy and share. We have a dedicated team in the back working to further improve our SEO - and there is something that all members can do to help.

If members could please remember to descriptively label photos before posting and be explicit when describing content in thread tiles, that really will boost our SEO.

1. Threads
Titles such as "WTF is this?" or "Bud Porn" negatively affect our rankings, whereas "My plant has gone crazy - is this foxtail?" or "Black Domina 72 Days Into Flower - Huge Colas" are descriptive and will positively help our mission.

2. Photos
Photos should describe their content so please re-name something like "image DSC_3928174rtt.jpg" to "jack-herer-hempy-bucket.jpg" for example, before posting.

This applies to images either uploaded to our Gallery, or attachments to posts.

This will help users to find your images and better understand your post.

3. Tags
These are important, so please be sure to add them when you start a new thread by using the Add Tags option .

Use words you expect to use in your thread or grow, e.g. soil, organic, outdoor, coco, LED, organic, hydro, scrog etc.

We understand this is extra work and not always possible, but please try to help us to remain the biggest and best cannabis community on the internet.

Thank You from the 420 Magazine SEO Team.

More Emojis!
This month we've added emoji support to the forums, which allows our members to use their iPhone & Android emojis in forum threads. We ask that you please use them tastefully and not get too crazy in signatures.

On 420 Magazine you can use them through your desktop/phone/tablet emoji overlay. In your message box, you should have an emoji icon in your mobile keyboard. On desktop, you right-click and select Emoji.

The forum also lists them in the Smiley menu. Click it and scroll to the bottom to find the long list of emojis to use.

We have also fixed a lot of emoji codes that were in the previous software, so those old emojis are now working again.

Software Update: The "Ignore" Feature
We removed a script that was designed to allow members to "ignore" each other. The script did not allow us to stop members from ignoring admins/mods, so it became an issue for us being able to moderate. Meanwhile, the forum software developer has evolved and actually added the feature into the software, without the use of an added script. You can see the "Ignore" button on anyone's profile, except for staff.

You can find detailed information on how you use it in our Members Support forum, here - How To Ignore A Member

420 Magazine Store
It's up and running here - 420 Magazine Store. Currently in stock, we have some very cool 420 Magazine mugs, stickers and those sought-after 420 Magazine T Shirts. It's all tip-top quality. No cheapo, foreign manufactured goods here. Unfortunately, PayPal continue being a problem in not allowing payments. Despite medical cannabis being legal in 38 Sates, recreational use legal in 18 States and a further 13 States having decriminalized cannabis use, PayPal have not yet caught up. We've all still got much work to do. Help support our Mission and pick up some awesome 420 goodies.

Your Experiences At 420 Magazine
We've got a new thread for our members to share how much they have learned, gained, grown and/or experienced from their membership at 420 Magazine. We hope that patients, activists, growers, fans of the flower, friends of 420 Magazine, or even reformed LEO will post their experiences here for others to learn from and celebrate.

Please Tell Us About Your Experiences At 420 Magazine

420 Magazine Job Opportunities
We are currently vetting applications from members for a product reviewer position. Thank you very much to those who have volunteered their time to support our mission. You'll understand that we have to be careful about who we allow in the back, so we'll be replying to you in due course. You can also send a resume to hr@420magazine.com

Any info on how we can turn off the new journal category listing on the "watched" list (completed, in progress active, and blank which seems to mean "other")?

If not, can you at least move it to the end of the title rather than before?
Was actually gonna say I like the new change to the notifications, I can see it being a Lil bit of an issue with mobile, maybe.

I'm finding it distracting this morning with nearly 40 unread journals and they all start with the same words rather than the actual name of the journal itself!

Personally it doesn't matter to me what category my subbed journals are in, which is why I was hoping for an on/off switch.

You can filter the grow journals by category - How To See A List Of ONLY Completed / Abandoned Grow Journals

We can't move the prefix I'm afraid. The system is set as a prefix, which we can't change.
