Brown roots no smell

I did a reservoir change yesterday and everything looked great. 24 hours later my roots are covered in brown gunk. There's no smell so I'm not sure if it's root rot. I also added a second AirStone yesterday to increase bubbles. I did increase the nutrient content but it's hard to believe what a difference 24 hours made. Leave are also curling in a weird way. What coukd be causing these issues and how do I fix them?

I'm using general hydroponics Flora Trio. I'm using 2.5 ml per gallon each of Flora, grow, bloom. I also added 8 ml per gallon of B-52 and 10 ml per gallon of Cal mend. I added some microbes from NPK at half a teaspoon per gallon. The Roots look much better after rinsing and don't smell. I have some enzymes but I haven't looked up how to use them yet. I used tap water.

Have u done DWC before, and or grown before?

Not sure any microbes will help since yer changing the water so often, I've never used them

Get hydroguard or z7 for goopies prevention

Hey there Triple. Welcome to the wonderful world of DWC!!! Imo one of the best ways to grow herb.

GH flora trio nutes will stain your roots brownish. The Micro is just some dark stuff. It's normal, don't worry about it.

That being said colored roots are fine but slime is never good. If your roots get slime and your buckets smell swampy it's definitely time to dump your buckets and sterilize your setup.

To help avoid the slime:
Always sterilize your gear at every reservoir change.
I clean my rezzys every 2 weeks or so.
Water temps....pop a thermometer in there. How warm is your nute solution?
Over 75 degrees F or so can start to see issues.
Light sealing, make sure you don't have light leaks in to your buckets. Slime can't grow without light.
Like Chris said, enzyme cleaners are your friend if it persists.

Side note, In your pics your clay pellet medium looks absolutely soaked. Make sure your water level is around 1/2" to 1" below your netpot.

You never mentioned the PH of your nutes. Get a PH pen or meter if you don't have one. It's essential equipment for growing in DWC. pH @ 5.8 to 6.2 is ideal.

She looks good so far :thumb:

Like I said

Enzyme in DWC is kinda pointless since it dosent have time to really create anything

Go basic till u learn... experiment down the road

I don't have any first hand experience with enzyme based cleaners but I've heard great things.

I've grown great smoke with the GH Flora nutes. I'm currently using mega Crop right now. It's definitely worth looking into. Super simple one step powdered nute system. No mixing from 6 different bottles and it just flat out works. Easy to wrap your head around for a new grower.

You can order a free sample bag off their website. I grew 20+oz with my sample bag. There is a very comprehensive thread on it here in the forums.

But you suggested hydroguard or z7.. those are enzymes. Do you mean microbes?

My bad

Thought that ADDED enzymes/microbes not a cleaner

Not sure of the brand, but may be good

Is that what changed the water color dark ?

This is what turns the water dark and stains the roots. Gives the nute solution a purple tint.
