Budding & Flowering Marijuana

I have a question? If I had outdoor plants that were 9 feet tall and I wanted to make them bud could I just throw a black plastic bag over them in the evening to adjust the daylight to 12/12. Would this work, or will it screw them up?? It would obviously be for about 3 hours a day to compensate for the extra day light. Any ideas on this would be greatly appreciated. Thank you.

9 feet tall? WHOA...lol...
...as for the plastic bag idea...personally i wouldnt. it would seem to me that that would perhaps promote either mould, bugs, rot, etc.

As much as i appreciate you wanting to start em flowering, an outdoor grow, with plants that tall would best be left to nature. But you raise a good point...and this is why i prefer a nice indoor hydro gro...i have TOTAL control over the growth cycle. you may want to try growing indoors, then transplanting late summer and let nature finish up.
Best of luck! :peace:

Thanks for the input I really appreciate it. Im just being impatient because I have no bud and no means of getting any for a while, and although I am not in a medical marijuana state, I use it for pain. I was in a tractor trailer accident and had 24 fractures and a broken back. I could get oxycontin like candy but dont want to touch that garbage,so I smoke bud. Anyways yea I will just let nature take its course. Thanks again for the input. Anyone have any idea how much a 9-10 foot plant would yield. I know there are no guarantees and it depends on alot of factors but these babys are tall and really bushy, ive topped them a couple times.

Youre very welcome...i've learned alot from the friendly and knowledgable people here!

I'll tell ya...i had 2 5foot bushy 'mother' plants...i got 4 ounces from my MobyDick (indica) and 5.5 ounces from my WonderWoman (indica)...these are fully cured weights! YUMMMMMMM
HOWEVER...with your 9foot monsters...lol...you COULD get much more. Alot of factors to consider that may increase yield. EXAMPLE: "super cropping" can increase bud size on lower buds...by 'bending' stalks a specific manner to allow mor light and room to 'fatten up'...works for me!

And i TOTALLY understand about needing the bud...and when ya are growin...and your stash is low...yeah, i get it! When in flower stage/cycle, you can (and should) cut lower branches with the small "pop corn" buds...that can get ya through till harvest.

Lucky for me, i live in a MMJ state...i'm a 3+ year stage IIIa cancer survivor...needless to say...
AND...our supreme court has just re-affirmed their stand that as long as a legitimate patient is within state guides lines and in complete compliance with state law, PATIENTS CANNOT BE PROSECUTED OR HARASSED for growing/using their own medicine!

I wish you the best my friend...keep strong, keep positive...

PS....are you vaporizing your neds? if not, look into it...you get WAY more medicinal effect WITHOUT the smoke!

...and try making cannabudder from your bud trimmings after harvest! Again, AWESOME medicinal pain relief (indica's preferred for pain y'know) And ya can find EVERYTHING you need to know on THIS website!:peace::420:

Well I dont really care about budding:is a form of asexual reproduction in which a new organism develops from an outgrowth or bud on another one. The new organism remains attached as it grows, separating from the parent organism only when it is mature. Since the reproduction is asexual, the newly created organism is a clone and is genetically identical to the parent organism.

But on flowering marijuana buds I will go there,,,and I will keep it simple also...

JMO:::When you flush---in the (4th week or in the 12th week) just remember that all that extra water you just feed the plant has to come out somewhere...The tich's in the center of the leafs small/med leafs next to buds break first,,,meaning that you should never,,,never,,,ever flush...Why...someone pipe in....

Thanks...

Any such thing as a Eunuch cannabis plant because I have one

OK, I know that a eunuch is a castrated male, but I got your attention. I have 3 plants (two girls and a green plant that looks like cannabis) in a tent exactly 21 days into flower. All three are thriving and very healthy and look pretty much identical. They are all getting lots of TLC, with plenty of light, perfect temp and humidity, good grow medium and nutrients and great ventilation. I would play soothing music if it would help! Two of the girls are budding nicely but the third is stuck in preflower.

Many of you are thinking PATIENCE but for how long? I'm OK harvesting the third plant at a later date but wondering if I would be just as well off killing this green imposter and giving the other two some elbow room. I need some advice on when and if to cut bait???? I would hate killing "it" prematurely. This cannot be a unique issue but I am not seeing much info out there relevant to my problem and I am a rookie.

:thanks: and :Namaste:

how long do I have once the tricholmes have turned 3/4 amber, its day 48 and I need to finish the fiush, about a week. and I'd like to get another week of growth atleast

Have my girls turned back to a 10 1/2 hours on X 13 1/2 hrs off and they are starting to get nice trichome formation, the color of the hairs is getting redder and the buds are thickening. The clones of my outdoor strain is doing well in my hydro set-up and one will be promoted to mother plant.
You can Bud or Flower Marijuana by introducing dark cycles of 11-13 hours that simulate the oncoming winter in the fall as the days grow shorter. As a consequence, it works out well indoors to have two separate areas; one that is used for the initial vegetative state and one that is used for flowering and fruiting. There is no other requirement other than to keep the dark cycle for flowering very dark with no light interruptions, as this can stall flowering by days or weeks. Once a plant is big enough to mature (12" or over), dark periods are required for most plants to flower and bear fruit. This will require putting the lamp on a timer, to create regular and strict dark periods of uninterrupted light. In the greenhouse, the same effect can be created in the Summer (long days) by covering it with a blanket to make longer night periods.

A strict schedule of covering the plants at 8pm and uncovering them at 8am for 2 weeks will start your plants to flowering. After the first 2 weeks, the schedule can be relaxed a little, but it will still be necessary to continue this routine for the plants to completely flower without reverting back to vegetative growth. Outdoors, Spring and Fall, the nights are sufficiently long to induce flowering at all times. Merely bring the plants from indoors to the outside at these times, and the plants will flower naturally.

In late Summer, with Fall approaching, it may be necessary only to force flowering the first two weeks, then the rapidly lengthening nights will do the rest. Give flowering plants high P plant food and keep them on a strict light regimen of 12 hours, with no light, or no more than a full moon during the dark cycle. 13 hours light, 11 dark may increase flower size while still allowing the plant to go into the flowering mode. Use longer dark periods to speed maturity toward the end of the flowering cycle if speed is of the essence. (8-10 days) This will however, reduce total yield. Two shelves can be used, one identical to the other, if strictly indoor gardening is desired.

One shelf's lights are set for 12-13 hours, and one is lit continuously. Plants are started in continuous light, and are moved to the other shelf to flower to maturity after several weeks. This flowering shelf should be bigger than the "starting" or "vegetative" shelf, so that it can accommodate larger plants. Or, some plants can be taken outside if there is not enough space on the flowering shelf for all of them near harvesting. A light tight curtain can be made from black vinyl, or other opaque material, with a reflective material on the other side to reflect light back to the plants. This curtain can be tied with cord when rolled up to work on the garden, and can be velcroed down in place to make sure no light leaks in or out. If the shelf is placed up high, it will not be very noticeable, and will fit in any room.

Visitors will never notice it unless you point it out to them, since it is above eye level, and no light is being emitted from it. Flowering plants like very high P level foods, such as 5-50-17, but 10-20-10 should be adequate. Nutrients should be provided with each watering when first flowering. Trace elements are necessary too; try to find foods that include these, so you don't have to use a separate trace element food too. Home improvement centers sell trace element solutions rich in iron for lawn deficiencies, and these can be adapted for use in cultivating the herb. Prices for these mass produced fertilizers are significantly cheaper than the specialized hydroponic fertilizers sold in indoor gardening shops, and seem to work just fine.

HYDROPONIC FLOWERING SOLUTION, per gallon: 1 tspn high P plant food, such as 15-30-15, or 5-50-17, etc. 1/2 tspn epsom salts 1 tspn Oxygen Plus Plant Food (Optional) 1 tspn Trace Element food I cannot stress enough that during the FLOWERING PHASE, the dark period should not be violated by normal light. It delays flower development due to hormones in the plant that react to light. If you must work on the plants during this time, allow only as much light as a VERY pale moon can provide for less than 5 minutes.

Keep pruning to a minimum during the entire FLOWERING PHASE. A green light can be used to work on the garden during the dark period with no negative reactions from the plants. These are sold as nursery safety lights, but any green bulb should be OK. It is best to keep the dark hours a time when you would normally not wish to visit the garden. Personally, I like my garden lit from 7pm to 7am, since it allows me to visit the garden at night after work and in the morning before work, and all day long, while I'm too busy to worry about it, it lies unlit and undisturbed, flowering away... Flowering plants should not be sprayed often as this will promote mold and rot. Keep humidity levels down indoors when flowering, as this is the most delicate time for the plants in this regard.

Early flowering is noticed 1-2 weeks after turning back the lights to 12 hour days. Look for 2 white hairs emerging from a small bulbous area at every internode. This is the easiest way to verify females early on. You can not tell a male from a female by height, or bushiness. 3-6 weeks after turning back the lights, your plants will be covered with these white pistils emerging from every growtip on the plant. It will literally be covered with them. These are the mature flowers, as they continue to grow and cover the plant. Some plants will do this indefinitely until the lights are turned back yet again. At the point you feel your ready to see the existing flowers become ripe ( you feel the plant has enough flowers), turn the lights back to 8-10 hours. Now the plant will start to ripen quickly, and should be ready to harvest in 2-3 weeks.

The alternative, is to allow the plant to ripen with whatever natural day length is available outside, or keep the plants on a constant 12 hour regimen for the entire flowering process, which may increase yield, but takes longer. Plants can be flowered in the final stages outdoors, even if the days are too long for normal flowering to occur. Once the plant has almost reached peak floral development, it is too far gone to revert quickly to vegetative growth, and final flowering will occur regardless. This will free up precious indoor space sooner, for the next batch of clones to be flowered.

Look for the white hairs to turn red, orange or brown, and the false seed pods ( you did pull the males, right?) to swell with resins. When most of the pistils have turned color (~80%), the flowers are ripe to harvest. Don't touch those buds! Touch only the large fan leaves if you want to inspect the buds, as the THC will come off on your fingers and reduce the overall yield if mishandled.

I am always a little apprehensive when it comes to my indoor plants...I have included some pics of my co-op bought clones (They said they were lemon haze) I don't quite feel as if they are ready to harvest yet. Any advice about this would be appreciated.
The first shot os the whole plant

hey ive never grown my own dope before but my friend is hooking me up with some seeds as soon as his plants are ready in a week. and i just have a question about the flowering solution. how often do i need to give that to my plants? and how much per plant? any info would be great thanks! peace

best bet would be floranova grow 1 part works awesome

I only joined so that I could say that you rock dude. . . . iv been pondering away for a while now as to how I could go about budding early outdoors, big ups to you:thumb:

Quick Question this has been growing from a clone tuesday the 4th this plant will be 7wks for me does it look like its ready to harvest i took this pic in the dark with my cam i will find a good one in the light

its hard to tell with the naked eye, you need some type of magnification that will allow you to see the thricolmes and what color they are which will be clear to cloudy and then amber, I've heard cloudy is more heady than body, which the more amber the more of a body stone, I take mine at three quarter amber for that couch lock buzz

I posted this in another area but hope someone will see it here sooner

My HID bulb failed sometime today during my 12/12 cycle, the plants have been in flowering for just over two weeks and I know the bulb was on for at least 4 hours, went on at 8 left for work at 12, got home at 8 just as it was supposed to be going off, made it in the door at 7.55 and saw that the light was not on in the room, checked the bulb and failure for sure and it was cool to the touch, could tell it had not been on for at least 2 hours, possibly as many as 6, so will they be ok, getting a new bulb in the morning and set my cycle for 11-11 tomorrow as the shop opens at 10, any help tonight would be awesome, hoping you guys on the west coast are still up

You will be ok a extra long dark period will not, or at least should not cause harm. Just get the bulb asap and start it back on 12/12 soon.

It really wont matter that it went 4 hours on the like 20 hours off, or w/e it was. Just get your bulb and get it back on a 12 on 12 off schedule soon or a 11 on 13 off schedule soon.
