Citrus Sap, A Garden Whose Time Has Come, Plus Mystery Seeds

Here's a shot taken with grow lights only, no flash. The buds are starting to bulk up.

July 4, 2021

Week 5 continued, Day 35. They needed feeding & water again yesterday but I was just too tired and they weren’t drooping yet. It’s still week 5 so this morning prepared 2 more gallons of the mix from formulated last Sunday and sprayed another 1260 mL into each pot in 2 equal applications. I skipped the extra Bud Candy & Mycorrhizae this time though.
An hour after completing the second application I got an email saying that my liter of Terpinator is in the mailbox. Next time! Also got the carbon filter/ventilation installed this week. It needs some more work but is keeping smell and temperature down, and I can bump up the light more.

7/18/2021 Week 7, day 43 of flowering. Light cycle is now 13 hours per day and each lamp is set to 100 Watts. Eek! I’ve got a Fungus Gnat invasion! It isn’t bad yet, only 25 on 2 yellow sticky cards but it needs action immediately and means the eggs were laid as long as a month ago. I have some Valent Gnatrol WDG but it expired 7/2019. Going to use it anyway and have ordered a bag of Summit Mosquito Bits from Amazon that will arrive tomorrow and 2 oz of fresh Gnatrol WDG off eBay that should be here prior to next watering.

This week the nutrient mix starts to wind down some. Each gallon of ultrapure water gets a half teaspoon of GH MaxiBloom, a gram of AN Big Bud, 4mL AN Cal-Mag, 7.5mL AN Bud Candy, 7.5mL of AN Overdrive, 30mL Rhizoflora Inc. (RI) Terpinator and 7mL GH pH Up to sweeten the mix. Mixing and testing showed pH 6.2, ec 2.70µS. The Terpinator seems to make the mix go over-range on TDS. Added 2 tsp. per gallon of the expired Valent Gnatrol WDG- I figure it is probably still effective to some degree. Each plant got 2.0L in 1L doses from the garden sprayer. Each pot drained well.

Here are some photos taken this morning, first the group, then a shot of each plant, followed by a pic of the sticky cards and their nasty little detainees.

Grrr. Fungus Gnats...

The body count on the sticky traps doubled overnight. Added a trap above the lights with a tack and put 2 more atop the pots. The Mosquito Bits arrived and I've sprinkled them liberally all over the surface of each pot. Sprinkled some into the tray as well, just for good measure. Directions say water as usual and repeat in three weeks if needed. The Gnatrol WDG arrives by the weekend so the Fungus Gnats will get the double-whammy with the Sunday watering.

7/25/2021 Beginning of Week 8 of flowering. Less than 2 weeks until harvest window (Aug 5 - Aug 15). Light cycle at 13 hours/day for the rest of the grow, I think. The Fungus Gnats are pretty well controlled and the soil gets another Gnatrol drench with fresh stock this time.
Stopping all nutrients stop now except one more dose of 7.5mL AN Overdrive, 15mL of RI Terpinator and 3.5mL pH Up per gallon of water. The Gnatrol will be mixed into the second gallon only since the larvae live in the top 35mm of the soil. Each plant will get 630mL from each gallon jug using the garden sprayer. Before Gnatrol, ec measured 1.0mS and pH measured 6.1 in both jugs.
Here's some more bud porn for the week. I'm really proud of these ladies and this will be my biggest harvest ever from the closet. These photos were all taken with the grow light off, illuminated by the camera flash only to accent the trichomes.

That little black triploid seed is a big producer.

August 1, 2021 Beginning of week 9 and within days to a week to harvest of the Citrus Sap. The triploid, "Poly" is still going strong and her buds are still adding girth with huge numbers of new white hairs. She is foxtailing a bit, so I dialed down the light intensity 5%.

Into each of 2 gallons of purified water I'll add 15mL of Terpinator and enough pH Up to set pH at 6.3, then I'll add a teaspoon of Gnatrol. Each plant will get a third of a gallon.

Now near the end of another grow, again composed of week after week of tedious measuring, mixing and juggling a dozen different nutrients and boosters, I've decided it's time to try the organic method. No more chemical fertilizers!

I've ordered a copy of the Rev's "True Living Organics" and got two 13" Gro Pro pot supports. 10 Gallon square fabric pots are on the way and at 13.4x13.4x13.4, the pot supports are a perfect match. The pots have tabs on the corners for plant stakes that will make for easy LST. Also on order are two 1.5 cu. ft. bags of Fox Farms Ocean Forest which will be the foundation for the living soil. After I've done some more reading and study I'll order other soil amendments I don't have.

Normally after a grow I leach my soil thoroughly and add more amendments, but right now in the middle of a megadrought I'd rather save the nearly 100 gallons of water it would take to leach the 24 gallons of soil in my 6 pots. All the soil from this crop will therefore be stowed in a storage bin for now and I'll be mixing a new batch.

The first two group photos were taken today and the shots of individual plants yesterday. I discovered my phone camera has a "pro" mode I didn't know about and I can adjust color temperature, exposure compensation and ISO, along with other goodies. I think I got some good shots and the color rendering is right on! Trichs are 60/40 clear/milky, very few amber yet.

Right now I'd like to say thanks to :420: and all the amazing, awesome growers here on the forum that I've learned sooooo much from since I began visiting 420magazine.com. Thank you all!

Beginning of week 10, day 63 of flowering. Must have gotten my numbers mixed up somehow, yesterday was day 62. Trichomes mostly milky, very few amber yet. I’ve decided on harvesting next Friday the 13th, my lucky birthday! The lights go out after shut off Wednesday evening and harvest is planned for Friday morning.
Today is the final watering and all they get with the H2O is 22.5mL of Terpinator and 3mL pH Up per gallon of water. The solution measures pH 6.4 and 0.9mS ec. Each pot will get (2) 630mL doses via garden sprayer.
Will get some final photos before harvest.

It's Day 68 of flowering, one day short of 17 weeks since planting the seeds, and it's harvest time! :cheer: Here's the Hail Mary Jane photo shoot taken beforehand:

Here's the Citrus Sap on the drying "rack".

Looks like yield will be somewhere above 8 oz, maybe 3/4Lb. o_O I'm going to need a bigger scale to weigh it! The results this time are way beyond this little closet's past track record. Amazing! Can't wait for a taste! :lot-o-toke:

Just finished trimming, weighing & jarring and the yield came out at 298.6 grams (10.55 oz.). The Citrus Sap produced a whopping 235 grams (8.3 oz.) and Poly weighed in at 63.76 grams (2.25 oz.). This is a new record and IMHO, a really impressive result from a 22"d x 34"w x 66"h space. They still have a lot of curing to do but the final weight will be over 1/2 a pound. The new lights have paid for themselves in one crop! Awesome!
:woohoo: :ganjamon:

Final post dry/cure taste and textures report:

The Sap buds are big and dense, covered with red hairs. Maybe a hint of citrus scent. Maybe would have been more intense if I'd started Terpinator sooner? Still curing and sticky but smokes smooth with a creeper, relaxing high. dna Crew created a winner here, IMHO.

Poly's buds are less dense but stickier and have a piney, diesel smell. Very potent, burns clean and smooth. Superb weed whatever strain it is! I'll be digging through that bag of seed for more of those little black gems.

On to the next grow!

Hope all is well in your world.
