Do not use with timer?

I have a 42 watt optolight CFL 2700k and it says Do not use with timers, blah blah, etc... Why not?

I have been using various home timers with everything from CFLs, LEDs, and HPS600w with no problems for 6+ yrs

currently using a mechanical for the LEDs and digital for the CFLs

Dimmers no, but I can't see how a timer could mess it up in anyway. Wouldn't it be the same thing as flipping a switch or plugging it in and out?

Not with digital timers, mechanical yes but I've had led remain on, (however very dim) so dim it had to be dark in the room to see the diodes were actually still on with digital timers.
