It might be easier to try a soil grow while you work on getting your nutes dialed in. Soil is a much more forgiving medium and can buffer ph too. My first grow was extremely diy. I just kept adding cfls until my plants were basically surrounded with them. As was mentioned, you can fry your plants pretty quick with the wrong fertilizer, especially timed release.

Thanks so much for the advice. And im really thinking about using soil as my medium since cfl is very easy to get. Im about to head home but i still have one last gardening shop that i want to visit and maybe check there what i can find. Though for soil, do you have any recommendations? Once i get home, ill be finishing up my set up since ive started germinating my seeds

Any good quality soil will do, although you will probably want to throw some extra perlite in there. Main thing is you don't want pests. Some cheap soils have been known to contain those. Then I would look for some fairly weak fertilizer, you can feed as often as you need to. The main thing for your first grow is just to finish it and get an idea of your environment and how the plants react. I understand being on a tight budget makes it more difficult to control all the variables so keeping it simple is the way to go.

Thanks for the reply! After all the amazing adventure i did earlier, i was able to get my hands on some nutes that has been recommended by some but didnt really come with a low price. Nevertheless, i bought them as i really want this to be a success.

All in all, what i have now is a growbox 20x20x20 (will probably make it taller up to 20x20x40). 2 cfl; 24w and 20w. A small usb fan (shown in pic), a ph tester and a light timer.

With that said, the only doubts i have is my growing medium. I really dont have the money to get a good soil any more at this point but i pretty much would like to keep the coco+vermiculate + the nutes.

Also, im planning on using the thingy salt and egg shell as a substitute for cal-mag (im kind of really in a bad spot in terms of money and cal mag in the philippines is not really that cheap.

Do you think it would work?

Im open to any suggestions and feedbacks so if you have the time, please let me know and lets go from there.

Eggshells won't have time to break down I don't think, you have a good start with flora series. Call mag may not be needed if using soil and cfl, I never did with using well water. Remember more light for flowerring. You can make reflectors for cfls because alot of light comes off the sides of bulbs and you want it all going down.

I really appreciate the help guys!!

For the eggshells, i got to watch a video where you heat it up in an oven or microwave (not really sure anymore but whats important is that you heat them up). Afterwards, you grind them and mix them to the growing medium.

Although for soil, i did take some pictures of what i found at my store and i can PROBABLY get my hands on a "fox farm" soil (comes with a price and need to order first). Anyway, here are some of the soil i was able to find. Please see pics

***Last 2 pic is the finished grow box. I really think that i should make it taller btw. Do you think so too?

I agree, calmag is more for leds. For my first grow for reflectors for my cfls I just got old bowls and painted them white inside. Worked great.

One way to get all the light off the cfls, hang them in the middle! That's a bowl reflector behind.

Those look healthy. I also see the splitters in there! The key with cfls is to get them close, as close as possible without burning them. Also right about putting them in the middle to get light and that is a great way to get more light in more shaded areas in any grow for a quick cheap fashion. I still have my cords and splitters and use them in my led tent for supplimenting dimmer areas. I use led bulbs with globes off though instead of cfl now as it is more dirrectional.

As for what i've mentioned above, i think this would be my first problem. I tried to germinate my seeds ussing the paper towel and it has been already 26 hours. I've left them in a pretty dark area and topped it off with another plate but made sure that theres air. Anywho, they are still "seeds" with no sproutlings or whatever. Did i just waste my seeds or should i wait a few more days?
