New Grower from Canada

Ha, yup though I gotta say that it's nice growing present day. Led 200 wat producing excellent yeils minus the heat and the actual 1000-2000 wats from the wall. Computers though are a good excuse, my main rig draws 750 wats ( computer ) very close to the 650 that my tent draws . Intake filters are a must if you have dank air.. we have all smoked that hair from a cat or dog that landed on that bud that ended up in your bowl .. you don't want that :)
Lmao...So true with the cat hair or dog hair heck probably even human hair in a bowl of weed in the past.... Dammm hope it wasn't pubic haha ;)

Yup, its thatvrandomngross harsh toke from an otherwise amazing bag :) better to not think about what it could be;) had an outdoor once get some mites at end of flower.. some buds totally fine, others.. so gross

Haven't been doing much, got the panda film and just been keeping an eye on them (realized I fed them half the nutes I should have), changing out res water tomorrow and will take a picture of roots since fixing light leaks, temps.

Hi... VictoryToker... Love growing on DWC (sorry about the blue lol ) here are a set of UBC Chemo strain plants in 3rd week of veg, Growing under 1000w LED and in 3 gallon res with two air stones in each res, The reason I grow in 3 gallon res is I have never needed hydro guard or z9 because of how often I change the res water out from being in a smaller container. Keep things breezy ,change the water lots and have lots of light on the canopy and lots of oxygen to the roots and you should have no problems growing any cannabis strain you wish DWC wise...If you are worried about root rot you could use hydrogen peroxide to help clean it up just a 1/2 tsp to a gallon should be good once a week and that can keep things sterile for ya threw out your grow. ;) Good luck on your gr

ow!

I'm glad to see some other folks growing my all time favorite strain UBC Chemo!!! I'm fairly new to growing and I've done my fair share of reading and learning, but rarely come across the Chemo strain

Good luck with the grow and I look forward to following progress

Updated pictures for the roots-

Oct 8 late evening, so 3 days after 25ml of cannazym (I ended up cutting off a chunk of roots that were way too dark and black for my liking)-
IMG_20201008_232243.jpg

Oct 11 evening, 6 days after the cannazym (I didn't change the water since Monday, just added some Orca Premium liquid on Friday, and an additional 25 ml dose of cannazym same day), I covered the top with some panda film by this point to, and temperatures have been steady in 20-21 C range, rather keep it cool than run into more issues.
IMG_20201011_195442.jpg

So far so good, changing out the res water tomorrow and increasing nutes, will feed more orca and enzymes same time, will try and get better picture lower but trying to avoid light getting in there.

Here is just some updated pictures, 1 week after adding enzymes (2 doses of 25ml each bucket), getting on top of high temperatures (steady 20-21C res) and light leaks-

Oct 12 (2 different plants took an uneven amount of pictures)-

Hello everyone, I had a few DWC questions and figured it was time to join after reading many forum posts.

Using GH Flora series + Orca Premium Liquid
2 Mimosa Evo Feminized seeds from Barneys Farm
4x4 cheap grow tent
1 x LED light (removed name - not sponsored) covers about 2x4 flowering area
2 x 5 gal buckets
2 x 6 inch net pots
1 x air pump
2 x 6 inch air stone
No water pump or top drip
I topped them Wednesday evening
Today-tomorrow is the 1 month mark since planting seeds

This is my first time growing, here are a few pictures of the ladies-
(one had minor nute burn few weeks ago all good now)

Welcome brother! I did my first grow dwc. A lot to learn. I did it without a ppm pin also. It could of been better but I was able to pull it off. I got a lot in coco, Rockwool, soil, and one dwc. You came to the right place to learn everything you need to know!

If you have a soft tooth brush you would do well to CAREFULLY and efficiently ( relatively quickly ) brush out those brown clumps. Think airflow. That sludge will be trouble. Use a pipette or turkey baster to lightly free the deposits with squirts from it and carefully work the roots into individual strands if possible, the clumping is a result of the pathogen and will choke the plants network off. Airflow is key, consider more oxygen for the res also.. never too much. Obviously if you are going to do the root work make sure you sterilize everything, think laboratory anything you touch anytime you touch wash hands, and brush, jet roots with hydroguard treated water:)

Impressive, whats the + in the cal mag ? I'm using cali magic myself. And what is photo plus? I'm also running hydroguard and I love it. :) costly, but worth it imo
General OrganicsCaMg+ (cal mag plus) helps optimize plant nutrition resulting in enhanced growth and healthier flowers and fruits. Contains an all-natural blend of fermented calciumand magnesium combined with organic acids and sugar chelates.

This is just an update on the grow, pictures of roots taken on the 25th, the plants this morning.
I ended up caving and bought some hydroguard 2 weeks ago on amazon for 130 CAD lol, been using it since and it has helped a lot.

I'm a little worried I'm not going to have enough space between the colas, anything I should do to defoliate? Right now I've been removing the fan leaves from the corners that point inside the canopy to give more light to lower nodes and colas in the middle.

Thanks

Yeah hydroguard is costly but absolute doom for root rot. Im using this and great whittecright not, huge root growth.
If I were you I would remove a LOT of that under canopy clutter, clear some fan leaves, clear any branch stems that are rising too close to the plants main stalk, remove any leaves that point inward. You may want to do a multi step defoliation, just take a little at a time to not shock the plant.. OR just do it all in one go, maximum shock but its done then. Also use a pipette and where you chop use just a drop of hydroguard mixed 2ml/l this prevents any infection to the plant, I discovered this, and that misting the roots with the same solution is doom for rot., defoliate any leaves that are covering bud sites, or tuck them under, you want a canopybof flowers not leaves, training also helps with this
Oct 27 defoliation

Nov 1 training and defoliation, droopy cause just beat up a bit
20201101_090120.jpg

My main tactic is to always remove any leaves that point inward and remove any lower bits that are not going to reach canopy height, or are light blocked, sometimes this means chopping a flower site, I turn those into clones. The only changes between the photos is that I've been tieing down the plants branches and spreading them out. Take tall things and make em flat. If you are looking for cheap trellis netting snow fence and bunge chords is about $3 per 4x4 net

Yeah I'll go ahead and remove some of the lower small fan leaves in the middle then most likely. The lower parts of the plant are actually a lot cleaner than it seems from those pics (those are just really big fan leaves in the way from the corners).
PXL_20201101_160302541.jpgPXL_20201101_160308915.jpg
Also for my "main stalk" I actually topped the plant a few weeks ago and tied down the second and third nodes to make quadlines, so I have 4 "main stalks" per plant in the corners, everything else in the middle was lower nodes that I gave light.

I actually removed a lot of foliage maybe a week ago to make room for all the smaller branches and shocked it for a few days, wasn't sure if it was the right approach, so this time around I just let it grow but I'm starting to think it'd crowded.

If your roots are healthy they recover very fast. When you look at the plant structure realize that fan leaves primary purpose is to catch light to develop the accompanying branch, after that branch has its own nodes and leaves the fan leaf is not nearly as important to keep. Any time you remove an inward pointing flower leaf you expose 2 flower sites. Imo you have a lot of fan leaves that can go. Sometimes I my also just cut 1 part of a leaf to expose underneath instead of the entire leaf . Never take more than 20% of the plant in one go, but realize that a healthy plant will re direct proportional energy to what you've cut off to new growth areas. Anything that gets too tall tie down or top, if itsctoo cluttered train and defoliate. Consider flower stretch and bud spacing.. when you look down on your plant you want to see as many flowers as possible, but you also need them to have room for air movement AFTER they are buds :)
