OG Kush

Hey Y'all.

What's the deal with OG Kush and why don't any of the seed-banks have this strain? They all list it but say it's out of stock.

Will this strain be available again, do you think?

Just looking for a little history lesson.

I just didn't know how seeds are replenished and if it's possible that something like OG Kush won't be available again.

Thanks for any insight on the "process"!

OG Kush seems like the post popular strain in california medical scene as far as I can tell. It gets top dollar especially down in LA. Maybe it has higher THC than other strains, or maybe getting mentioned in numerous rap songs and on HBO show entourage have helped its marketing.

I like it and it relatives, just grew some headband which is OG kush x sour diesel x sour diesel, nice feel to high and potent.

Thanks man!

I know that strain (OG Kush) has been around for ever. Probably never have the single strain available again it looks like.

I checked the seed bank on the mix you mentioned, OGxDiesel, looks like that one is out of stock also.

Lots of Afghan kush stuff in stock, but very little mixes with OG, at least the recommended strains.

And the search continues....

Why do you want the OG Kush so bad? If it's b/c you had it and it rocked, then go for it. If it's b/c it's the hot ticket right now, I'd just go for something different, but that's just my 2 cents. I'd actually go for something else if it were me. The headband is actually better IMHO, and so are some other of the kushes. And I really don't think I'm speaking from a bad high since I've gotten it from several dispensaries. Maybe I just didn't like it though. Totally possible.

GL, even if just to solve your obsession to find it!

Thanks Sungoddess.

Not really an obsession, just something I smoked many years ago (before it became popular on TV) and since I'm a new grower I just wanted to try something that I was familiar with. I was more interested in the history of the strain, and why one strain becomes "unavailable" to order, how a strain dies off.

Those pics are fantastic. Thanks for whetting my appetite!

Kudos for sharing!

I can't speak off of fact, but I "hear" that there aren't any seeds for the the true OG Kush strain. So, maybe that's your answer. Hopefully someone else can chime in and offer up some fact... either to back me up or debunk what I said. Either way, GL in your quest to get what you need/want.

I did a little research on the strain because I too am intreested in growing it. This is what I found from another posting. Just good info. Hope it helps.:peace:

Hello all,

I'm new here,So I apologize for jumping in on the conversation but I have a bit of info here that I've collected On the OG Kush and would like to share it with you.

OG Kush:

"In late '93 John from Grass Valley Ca. got the Chem Dog cut. He shared it with me, Jerry(cowboy) from Dibble Creek Ca. and Harold(Putz) from Sunset Beach Ca. Putz had a male he called the secret ingredient. It was a cross of Lemon Thai and an Old World Paki Kush. Putz bred the secret ingredient to the Chem Dog. The buds that came out of this cross were going around So. L.A. county in '95. Someone told Putz that Kush must be so good because it was mountain grown. Putz laughed and told him "this Kush is Ocean Grown Kush bro". The tag stuck and it became known as OG Kush. In the spring of '96 Putz married a girl from New Zealand. Before moving there he sent cuts of his OG to me and Bob(beans) in Salinas Ca. He gave all his P1 stock and all the remaining seed he had to ****(mad dog) from Downey Ca. In late '96 **** sold some seed to some guys in the Valley. That's where the San Fernando Valley cut of OG comes from. It's like the Original only more sat in pheno type. **** sold a cut of the original to a guy in Orange county and that cut is called Larry today. It's still around Orange county. **** sent one other cut of the original OG to a breeder in Europe. As far as I know he never let anyone else have it.
Jerry bred his Chem Dog cut to a Humboldt county indica boy. This was the beginning of his cubing proccess. At BX3 he got a pheno that had all the smell, taste and kick of the Chem Dog, but in a pure indica pheno. Jerry gave this plant to Bob. It became known as the West Coast Dog.
Bob bred this plant to my Old World Kush male. He took a male from that cross and bred it to the OG cut Putz had sent him. This is what made the original Bubba Kush."

Lineage:ChemDawg x [ Lemon Thai x Old World Paki Kush]

Info on the differnt kutz of OG Kush:

Tahoe= cut brough into the community by Swerve. The grower that Swerve got it from had sourced the cut in the Lake Tahoe area in the 90's.

-Larry= The Orange County Larry cut that is availble in the medical scene came from the same Orange County crew that the H.A O.G Kush came from

-SFV= There are a million O.G cuts grown in the S.F.V, however the cut that goes by this name on these forums and in medical disp. came from forum member Swerve

-Ghost= This cut came from ORGNKID, ORGNKID had sold a O.G cut to a Overgrow forum member named "Ghost" who further distributed the cut.

-Tripple OG= This cut came from ORGNKID. This cut is A.K.A Triple X/XXX O.G Kush. Triple O.G was popularly sold to medical patients by the now defunct C.A.L.M disp. of Malibu.

-Abusive= This cut was brought into the community by an overgrow member named "Abusive", believe it or not Abusive claimed to have got the cut through the rapper Snoop Dogg.

-SAC#2= Cut brought into the scene by forum member O.Gkushman, O.Gkushman got the cut from DJ Muggs.

-P.R OG A.K.A Private Reserve O.G= Another O.G cut that ORGNKID brought into the scene. The cut was sold to Med patients as Private Reserve O.G through the now defunct C.A.L.M disp. of Malibu.

-Apothecary = O.G cut brought into the scene by the apothecary seed co's Brett. Brett got it from a high profile Medical MJ activist in L.A back in 1999

-Diablo= This = cut came from the R.D.C disp. In the San Fernando Valley

-Raskal's OG= Another cut sourced in the San Fernando Valley. Cut was bought for several thousand dollers from ******* ***** members by a friends of forum member OGraskal

-HA OG= Cut came from an commercial H.A room in Orange County, grown by the same crew that brought the Orange County Larry cut into the medical Disp.

-Poison OG=Cut came from O.Gkushman, he grew it from seed found in a pound of O.G back in '96

-SAC#1 & #3= #1 came from G-Thumb in the San Fernando Valley, #3 came from San Fernando Valley but is very popular in Santa Barbara and sometimes goes by the name "Purple O.G Kush", the cut was brought into the scene by the owner of the now defunct Hortipharm in Santa Barbara

Diablo is the same exact cut as Ghost, both coming originally from the man Orgnkid. The original OG DID NOT have lemon thai or any hint of lemon in it. that story is indeed defunct and wrong.

I guess this is true since when I went to the expo in San Fran this weekend the guy that brought the seeds back from the middle east (where? my memory is so bad) was there & he's the only one that ever had the seeds I guess and does the clones. Hopefully I'm not spitting out incorrect info....If I am, please someone shut me up. It was a long weekend of smoking...

according to Jeff Kings Cannabible 3, OG Kush is only currently available in clone form and thats why no seeds around, it also states that OG Kush is actually a sister to real Sour Diesel (not the NYCD Diesel sold by Soma), and that both plants are from the chem/dawg family line.

also, its mostly a sativa, no idea why they call it a "kush" to be honest.

Riot seeds is releasing the feminized version of the Original OG Kush sees - avail on senssibleseeds.com within the next month or two. This is the only way to have the original OG kush without incrossing another strain is by reversing one female clone and pollenating another female clone with the reversed one. Keep your eyes peeled.

Looks like they are carrying the Greenhouse version of OG Kush, which I have been told is not the true OG Kush from LA. It could possibly be the Indica variety, but is definitely not the original true Sativa variety. This is a tough call as Greenhouse is one of our dear friends and trusted sponsors, however the breeders of this strain are very close friends as well. Hope this helps.

OK!

Yes, OG Kush = Ocean Grown Kush, as far as I've been able to discern in my research, most all of which is, by necessity, anecdotal.

Is it available in seed form?

Not as far as I know, but I'm sure it is possible.

It is generally only available as a clone, with many many many varieties circulating around. SFV OG Kush is excellent, very very tasty. Abusive OG is amazing -- it really is abusive!! When done in hydro, the nugs can be dense as rocks, I kid you not. There are any number of other names, most all are just phenotypes of the original line, more than truly new lines that are distinct enough to merit new designations.

I just finished a grow with some gorgeous Super OG Kush plants (OG Kush x Purple Haze) and they were in no way a sativa dominant plant. See my sig for pics, I was very happy with them.

I'm vegging some slightly unhappy "pure" (hopefully, a true cut) OG Kushes that will be great in about a month or two -- I'll see about getting a journal going for them.

OG Kush is a great balanced high, plenty of sativa influences but not overpowering, it has a strong base in what I think are some of the original landraces from the Hindu Kush region that really make it a superb hybrid, an excellent choice for noobies as it is hearty as all get out and very stable, not fussy like some strains can be.

Because of the way the original OG Kush line was created, I doubt it'll be stabilized into a seed line anytime soon, I would just stick to clones for now. It is indeed LA-specific but that does mean you will never be able to get a clone from a dispensary in another state, it just might take a long time, sadly.

Regardless, clones are much easier to start with anyway -- I would not really advise starting from seed other than to start new mother plants.

Reserva Prada has or had (out of stock) og kush and og kush #18 available. I was able to get some from the attitude seed bank before they sold out.
