Quick Tinctures: A SweetSue Picture Tutorial

Oh my goodness, I came in here today to ask a simple question about using a food press to get every drop of oil out of my oil-processed plant material, and I find this amazing, new to me, way to make a tincture. I am intrigued. Thanks, SweetSue. Once again, you have taught me something new.

I have a freezer full of weed all ready to process. I think I'll give this a try.

Question...does it matter how long you leave the material in the alcohol? Is longer better and how long is too long? Question #2 is the plant material that is left after processing completely useless? I know that the material left over after my olive oil infusion process still has some potentcy left in it.

This is so awesome, Sue. Now I just need to clear my calendar so I have time to play with all of this new information.

You know…, depending on the quantity you have, and if you’d miss it… take 2 oz of decarbed, place in mason jar, fill with 750ml everclear 189 proof, shake for 10 mins, put in dark cool place, and shake 5 mins for 2 wks. Then,5min once a week for two wks. Then, 5 mins. whenever you think about it for 6+months! It will last for years!!!

Thank you for this, Ravensman8, I have lots and lots of quantity; my freezer is well stocked, so why not experiment? If I go through the process you describe above, can I then proceed with cooking it down a bit using the water bath method or should I not bother with that part? Hummm, I may still need a food press...

Yes, I can see that. When I process my Olive oil tincture I store it in the freezer until I need it so I do not have an issue with spoiling. but an alcohol tincture would not need freezer space.

Sue I agree smoking it is the most efficient way to get everything out of the plant. I would love to delve into edibles also if I have enough from my grows.

i also vape nic juice. Could I use the tincture to make my own ejuice? It is so expensive to buy and it will be milder on my throat than smoking bud.
it may or may not be milder. depends upon the medium you use to dilute for vaping or what it is made from in the beginning. I have tried to vap RSO and it worked but terrible taste. And as someone ask me, why would you want to vap that stuff, there are far better methods to vap. All said, Sue has done a good job keeping the tincture as clear as possible and that in it's self should vap with less after taste

I must say, it's great to see someone taking the time to share their knowledge and experience on this topic. Making a small-batch tincture sounds like a great way to get the most of cannabis effect without having to worry about smoking it. And using high alcohol content is a smart way to make the extraction more efficient. That's genious!

Sorry if I sound paranoid, but are you an AI spambot?

One of the easiest dosing methods is an alcohol tincture. It’s a quick and easy process to wash the plant material with a strong ethanol alcohol and gently reduce the wash to a tincture concentration.

This tutorial will walk you through the process of making a small-batch tincture. I started with about 4 ounces of alcohol and reduced it down to 1 ounce.

As in all things cannabis, the quality of your produce will greatly determine your outcome. I used spiced rum for this batch at the request of the patient. Use the highest alcohol content you can get for the most efficient extraction.

Enough words. I’ll let the pictures say the rest.

You don’t need to use a hot water bath. There are many ways to evaporate, for example you can pour it into a glass dish and let it evaporate on its own (takes longer) or heat the dish and speed the process up.

Dosing is an individual determination. Start with one drop and wait 15 minutes before trying another. Keep doing that until you’re feeling the effect you desire. Move slowly. You’ll never know how little can be effective if you jump right up to a high dose.

Your endocannabinoid system will thank you for this patience with improved healing potential. :Namaste:

Now you know the dose that works for you. Allow yourself to be flexible. Tinctures make great medicine for breakthrough pain, anxiety, and muscle spasm. A bottle can be discreetly carried and medicine stealthily dosed with a tincture in your pocket or purse. Consider a sample bottle that holds a mere 1 ml for emergency use.

The alcohol tincture will burn if taken on its own, but it’s easy enough to add to a drink or drip onto some food.
I think youre my girl for infusions!

Question: Is this also an efficient way to infuse hemp for CBD tincture? I am still wanting to understand the solubility of different compounds...(chemistry minor. The nerd emerges strong!)

Sorry to say this member has not been online since Aug. 2021
I make CCO (RSO) pretty much the same way but use the cold weather to my advantage & do my wash & filter @-30c & recover my alcohol

The same way as for THC
To decarb CBD it takes longer than THC , some do it at higher temps
