1st Grow Bag Seed

Started my 1st grow a month ago exactly 30 days ago. Always been inspired to grow but never been in a legal state or of age until now . 21 just recently moved to Nevada. Legally can grow 6 plants 12 per household for 2 adults recreational use . That being said I plan on making clones soon ;)Been studying so much and reading other people’s journals I noticed people usually give advice when they see something wrong and I’m still new to this so feel free to post your input or message me .

Using soil that was given to me to start growing unknown brand (in a Walmart bag) so hopefully that’s not the reason they were growing so slow at first.

Just got General Hydroponics Trio & PH down set last Saturday so been feeding 1/2 recommended dose on bottle meaning first 3 weeks straight tap water :eye-roll: . I also have Ph down with a ph tester since I’m using tap water my ph runs around 8.0 . Plants under 4 cfls homemade grow light setup 2 2700k 14W and 2 14w 5600k . 16 Hours on 8 off.

I have this little plant in a rigged up dwc type of setup .There’s a major problem here but can’t pin point exactly what it is due to a couple symptoms looking the same . No stressing if it dies cause it was just a expirement but I’d like to bring it back to life if I could:hmmmm: does anyone know what the hell this is? And I do realize that algae will grow inside eventually but I wasn’t worried about covering it yet because I thought it was gonna die a week ago I don’t think it was in with the last plants because I was remixing the nutrient water.

and here’s an update on the biggest 1 at 33 days! Bigdifference in past 3 days with extra added light:cheer: . The 2 10w led bulbs added are mainly focused on the bigger plant but still touching surrounding plants while all are still getting the light from the 4 cfls.

excuse my fancy little pots I’m trying to keep my startup on a minimum budget:laughtwo:. Any advice just let me know or if I’m doing something wrong .

Hi there Seed 2 Weed!

Your plants look great, they are coming along nicely!!!:thumb:

Low budget is fine but certain rules can’t be broken. Roots need oxygen but can’t be exposed to light. Those repurposed clear containers will bite you in the ass UNLESS you cover them with something... Hello duct tape!

The yellowing seedling is not happy, don’t think it’s getting oxygen to the roots. Even if there are holes in bottom.... there are drainage holes right??? So even if there are drainage holes - the oxygen is not being replenished because of the closed off water jug below. It appears you have combined a soil grow with DWC components. Can soil and DWC be done successfully? Perhaps - but it’s not something most growers would recommend!

Also soil looks wet - are you watering every day? If so, stop watering every day and let them dry out; overwatering is a very common mistake. Let the roots search for water, go 2 or 3 days between waterings. Keep an eye on leaf posture, when they begin to slightly wilt then you will know it’s time to water them. Many folks do what’s known as “lift the pot” method to tell when it’s time to water. When the soil dries out - the pot is light as a feather. Building the wet / dry cycle helps in the veg phase, bigger roots = bigger fruits!

Later dude

Wanted to add this: since you are using CFL lights - can you lower the fixtures or elevate the plants? They are stretching up searching for more light. Having tall plants is not a bonus for indoor growers especially since CFL’s won’t effectively penetrate or light up the inner / lower branches of a tall plant.

4 CFL’s at 14 watts is not enough to power a big harvest or multiple plants - IIRC 40 watts per square foot is the target. Any chance you got a new light fixture in the works? If not maybe - check out our sponsors!

Thanks for the advice 013 I wish I knew that I will go ahead and cover them with tape and spray paint the bottles in the future :thumb: I water every other day unless it’s a little moist within the top inch then I wait another day . It probably looks moist all the time because when I water is when I capture my bud porn . There is drainage holes on the dwc/soil grow . It’s still slowly staying alive growing new fresh green leaves slowly .

I have the 4 14w cfls and 2 10w led house bulbs and took the plastic cover off . I was wondering if maybe that was the reason behind them stretching ‍♂ I will lower a couple inches for sure! I figured since this is a little over 2 square feet that 76 Watts total would be alright I want to keep seedlings going under cfls and flowering under the real grow light . Viparspectra 600w dimmable on the way arriving in 2 weeks. Was this a good cheap investment ? I’ve been researching cheap lights n viparspectra seems to be efficient being cheap at the same time.

It’s all good bro. Save up choice recycled stuff, empty Clorox jugs are same as 1 gallon after cutting top off, but go with duct tape to make it dark for roots.nSure no worries on the CFL’s, they can do amazing stuff like space buckets even whole grows if you go big with them. Saw one dude who built a frame & had at least 20 - 25 cfl’s mounted.

Excellent on the new light, heard a lot about viparspectra but no first hand experience. Is that 600 watt model a blurple or white led? Either way it will throw mucho photons. Don’t know their pricing but should be great investment. How much you paying for weed? See that light is really cheap now huh? Glad that other gal is greening up for you!
