Australia - Police raided the 40 hectare property on Cadaga Road, Fernvale, near Murwillumbah, early this morning as part of an ongoing operation targeting drugs in the region.

Officers allegedly uncovered two buried shipping containers full of hydroponic cannabis plants, ranging from 15-30cm in height, with an estimated value of $2 million.

"It is alleged that up to 380 plants were found, as well as about 100g of cannabis resin and 200g of cannabis leaf," police said in a statement.

A man, 40, was charged with cultivating a commercial quantity of prohibited drug, while a woman, 38, was issued with a court attendance notice over possession of a prohibited drug.

The man will appear at Murwillumbah Local Court on April 7, while the woman is due in the same court on April 12.

Police say the crop's elaborate set-up isn't unusual.

"Unfortunately drugs are an issue up here," Tweed/Byron region duty officer Inspector Darren Steel said.

"And this is not the first time we have found underground bunkers containing cannabis.

"Seizures like today are a reminder to the criminals who set them up that we will do all we can to put them out of their illegal business."

...we will do all we can to put them out of their illegal business

The only way this will happen is through regulation. Maintaining prohibition is the lifeblood of these often criminal enterprises.
Why do police officers continually express sentiments like this?
