Police are looking for whoever abandoned a storage unit in Kokomo, leaving behind 60 pounds of high-grade marijuana.

Workers at the North Side Mini Warehouses in the 3000 block of North Apperson Way were taking possession of a storage unit with unpaid rent Wednesday when they discovered bags of pot among the discarded possessions.

Howard County Sheriff's deputies recovered several one pound bags of marijuana and several compressed bricks of high-grade marijuana with an estimated street value of more than $50,000.

"A number of storage units are abandoned every year and the unclaimed property is eventually sold. You would never expect this quantity of drugs to be left as unclaimed property," said Deputy Matt Roberson.

Police said they were still trying to determine who had rented the storage unit.
