The potential buyer of a home in rural McLean County found some unusual personal property recently when he checked out a storage building: three bales of marijuana with a street value of more than $100,000.

"It was 134 pounds of marijuana, located in a vehicle in an outbuilding in a residence for sale in rural Chenoa," Sheriff Jon Sandage said of the Aug. 15 discovery.

The drugs, some of which were found in large bags outside the car, may have been left behind by a person who is behind bars, said the sheriff.

"We are still following up on previous occupants" of the home, he said.

Authorities do not know how long the drugs had been on the property.

The potential buyer called the sheriff's department after finding the marijuana.

Sandage called the discovery of a drug dealer's merchandise "pretty unusual. Usually they keep a tight rein on what they have."
