Californians Support Legalizing Pot, Just Not When A Ballot Is In Front Of Them

Dear fellow Californians:

What the hell is wrong with you? Just a few days after shooting down the state's historic attempt to legalize marijuana, you indicate that you're all for decriminalizing the drug?

You know that thing they call a ballot? That's where you fill in the bubble to indicate that you want pot to be legit. Telling a pollster the next day isn't going to make it legal, got it?

According to Greenberg Quinlan Rosner Research (PDF), 50 percent of respondents said yes to legal weed just one day after the election that saw Prop. 19 go down 54 percent (against) to 46 percent (for).

If 50 percent of you voted for it it would have passed.

On top of that, one in four of Prop. 19's no voters said they seriously considered voting yes. Really?

The report also found that Tuesday's vote represented an all-time, er, high of support for any American ballot initiative weighing legal cannabis:
Alaska 2000: 40 percent

Nevada 2002: 39 percent

Alaska 2004: 44 percent

Nevada 2006: 44 percent

Colorado 2006: 41 percent

California 2010: 46 percent

Oh well, there's always 2012.
