Drainage hole?

I have a smaller plant which I transplanted in a trash can and I’ve never made the drainage hole .
I’ve transplanted in a 4 gallon trash can and I’m wondering if I put a hole at the bottom will it damage roots? It’s week 6 btw all my other plants are in smart pots so I don’t have to worry about them

Yes you really need drainage holes so that stale water doesnt just sit in the bottom. You must be a very instinctual waterer to have survived this oversight. Just drill some holes in the bottom and dont worry about the few roots you will damage... your smart pots are air pruning roots all the time, and this has not damaged the plants.
