The Council of Ministers' former president Pedro Pablo Kuczynski added to the recent controversy over marijuana (Cannabis Sativa), declaring publicly that, in his opinion, marijuana commercialization and use should not be illegal.

"I believe we need to get rid of the problems. One of those problems is that the fight against marijuana takes enormous local Police efforts. Marijuana should be legal so our policemen could have time to focus on really harmful drugs” he declared today to RadioProgramas del Peru.

So Kuczynski seems to fully agree with Surquillo mayor Gustavo Sierra, who had recently asked for marijuana legalization and even proposed that Ministry of Health should sell small amounts of narcotics in authorized drugstores under official supervision

According to some Cedro NGO studies, marijuana is the most extensively used illegal drug in Peru.
