How to protect leaves from the soil splashing when watering and LST?

So I am currently using clay pellets on top of the soil. They are great at protecting the leaves from soil splash, but they are just holding in too much moisture. They are also great so that the leaves don't rest on the soil when I do LST.

What else is there that i can remove once is dried after watering?

I've tried looking up the foam that goes around the base, but I can't find anything. Any Ideas?
