Drug agents said they discovered a massive marijuana growing operation Thursday in the an isolated area of the Santa Cruz mountains.

The pot stash was estimated to be worth up to $50 million by narcotics officers.

It may be the biggest marijuana plantation discovered in Santa Clara County this year and was certainly one of the best hidden, officials said.

Stretching for miles in the mountains above Los Altos Hills, authorities said the newly discovered pot plants were a month away from harvest and grew shaded by a canopy of chamise and manzanita.

State Fish and Game Lt. John Norris said the roughly 10,000 marijuana plants were well tended in the ground, supplied by a drip irrigation system.

Sheriff's deputies said no arrests had yet been made in connection with the growing operation.
