Texas - Customs and Border Protection (CBP) officers at the Laredo Port of Entry on Tuesday seized more than a ton of marijuana intermingled in a pottery shipment during a routine inspection at World Trade Bridge. "Our CBP officers put it all together and successfully targeted and interdicted this significant load of marijuana," said Jose R. Uribe, CBP Acting Port Director, Laredo. "As we approach the holiday season, our officers remain as vigilant as ever to prevent narcotics and other illicit merchandise from reaching our streets."
The seizure occurred on Tuesday, Nov. 12, 2013 when CBP officers working at the World Trade Bridge referred a 1996 Freightliner tractor hauling a manifested shipment of ceramic pots and vases for a secondary inspection. During the examination, CBP officers discovered 591 packages containing a total of nearly 2,276 pounds of alleged marijuana intermingled within the commodity. The estimated street value for the marijuana is $1.8 million. CBP officers seized the narcotics and tractor trailer.
