what does trhis do when you leave you plant for hours in darkness before flowering ?

some say it gets it ready for the light change better... and some say it does nothing...

myself I put my plants into the dark for 30hrs. It gives an unmistaken signal to go into bloom. I believe that it also reduces stretching
