I would get a 3 gallon pot, depending on how tall you want it to get. You will need to pickup a pH test kit from the store, to test the water. I think you can get them from ebay or maybe even a trusted sponsor for about 20 bucks. You can do everything right, but if pH is off, the plant will suffer.

I like to mix the potting soil with clay, some perlite, worm castings and plant-tone organic mix for trace minerals. you can mix outdoor soil with the potting soil, but you have to strain it well and bake it in the oven for about an hour or 2 at about 200 degrees (It stinks).

When you transplant just be gentle and try not to do too much root damage and you will be cool.
