Houlton, Maine - The Campaign to Regulate Marijuana Like Alcohol's referendum Question 1 will ask voters in November if they want to allow the possession and use of marijuana under state law by persons who are at least 21 years of age, and allow the cultivation, manufacture, distribution, testing, and sale of marijuana and marijuana products subject to state regulation, taxation and local ordinance. The campaign is being funded by the estate of former Progressive Insurance CEO Peter Lewis, along with Silicon Valley investment giant Founders Fund, lead back of marijuana monopolist, Privateer Holdings, along with the DC New Approach PAC, Marijuana Policy Project and Drug Policy Alliance, funded by billionaire George Soros. They have used the wording from Colorado and Washington's initiatives that have resulted in loss of patient privacy, loss of ability to legally grow outside, many new regulations that are impossible to comply with for small businesses, and creation of new criminal charges.

Hillary Lister, from Maine Matters, says this will put the medical marijuana community at risk. If passed there will most likely be limited licensing for growers which will put many of the medical marijuana caretakers out of business. Lister explained that the bill won't remove any criminal penalties for the possession or cultivation of marijuana.
