This will be my 3rd grow -- first two in soil in closet with flouro.
I'm upgrading to hydro -- dwc in rubbermaid containers w/airstones, etc. I bought a grow tent 4x4x6.5 and a 400hps light setup. I'm totally confused about ventilation. The tent is in an upstairs room, big old farmhouse. People on another forum told me I need 400cfm fan to pull air through. But, using the formula for finding cubic ft and divide by 5 -- I get like 21cfm. The guy at hydro store says 95cfm will be more than adequate (squirrel cage). The reflector has 6" aircooled ports on either side. I was thinking of using a passive intake and pulling air through the light and then exhausting through the top, but wouldn't that cause the tent to suck in? ugh, I had no idea what the tent involved, thought it was going to be easy! stupid me

Do any of these formulas actually work? It seems to me that you figure out what you think you need, then double it. If you have a good relationship with the guy at the shop, ask if you can borrow the 95cfm fan for an evening and try it out.

Sorry, I know that doesn't help much.
