Ohio Senator Feels Marijuana Bill Has Some Flaws

With medicinal marijuana likely coming to Ohio this fall, there are some important facts people need to know before taking the drug.

Ohio Senator Lou Gentile said he feels the bill was rushed through the legislature, and there are some flaws. Including, employers can still fire their employees if the test positive for it even if they have a prescription.

People can also lose their unemployment benefits.

"Until the federal government makes some decisions about this issue and makes marijuana a schedule 2 substance, does some research and development, we'll have states that are pushing for it but the national, federal government still sees it as an illegal, controlled substance. Some of those concerned lead many of us to ultimately vote no on the bill because we thought it was flawed, not because we think people shouldn't have relief from pain and suffering," said Sen. Gentile.

Once the bill reaches the governor's desk, he will have 10 days to sign, veto, or ignore it.

Then, if signed, it will become law in 90 days.

Likely, lol? The governor of that state signed the bill into law today. I know a guy who... knows a guy that is already in the process of converting his business into a large-scale cannabis grow operation. <SHRUGS> Of course, that doesn't mean he'll come up with the onerous application fee, if his application will be accepted if he does, or if the city government that it's in will vote to disallow such businesses in the city (or at least the specific site). And it's sort of a little good news, a lot of bad news; people will not be able to legally smoke cannabis and, perhaps more importantly... they will not be allowed to grow their own medicine:

Ohio Gov. Kasich signs bill to legalize medical marijuana
Posted 5:54 pm, June 8, 2016, by Associated Press, Updated at 05:55pm, June 8, 2016

COLUMBUS, Ohio – Gov. John Kaisch has signed a bill legalizing a fast-tracked medical marijuana program in the state.

Kasich signed the legislation Wednesday that would allow people to use the drug in vapor form for certain chronic health conditions. The bill bars patients from smoking marijuana or growing it at home.

A count by the National Conference of State Legislatures shows Kasich's signature makes Ohio the 25th state to legalize a comprehensive medical marijuana program.

Ohio's bill drew both support and opposition from Republicans and Democrats when it passed last month. Lawmakers sought to offset support for a proposed fall ballot issue.

The law takes effect in 90 days, though the medical marijuana program won't be running by then. It's expected to be fully operational in about two years.
