Two drug busts Sunday in Vermillion County netted about $90,000 worth of marijuana and landed seven people in jail.

Around 12:20 a.m., deputies Dave Leitgabel and Christopher MacLaren of the Vermillion County Sheriff’s Department conducted a traffic stop near Fourth and Gilbert streets in Fairview. In the trunk of the car, officers found about 14 pounds of marijuana, along with U.S. currency and drug paraphernalia.

Arrested were: Monica L. Kennedy, 18; Jaime L. Gilmore, 21; Dustin C. Wineinger, 20; and Carl S. Cottrell II, 18, all of Clinton. All four were preliminarily charged with felony possession of marijuana and maintaining a common nuisance, according to a news release from the Vermillion County Drug Task Force.

Officer John Yoho of the Drug Task Force, along with MacLaren, then applied for a search warrant for two homes in Universal that have been under investigation, according to the release.

At the two locations, both in the 200 block of South Shew Street, officers executed the search warrants and seized an additional 16 pounds of marijuana, U.S. currency, cultivating supplies and drug paraphernalia.

Arrested were: Ely Hedges, 30; Wrena Searing, 27; and Russell Searing, 19. All three were preliminarily charged with felony possession of marijuana, maintaining a common nuisance and possession of paraphernalia.

All the suspects were detained Monday in the Vermillion County Jail in Newport, without bail.
