Tuesday night, the Chico city council met to deliberate the regulations governing a medical cannabis ordinance.

At one point, Mike Ramsey, the Butte County District Attorney and pro marijuana advocate and lawyer Max Del Real got in a heated debate in the lobby of Chico City Hall.

According to Del Real, the argument soon turned physical. Del Real says Ramsey was so close him that they were touching chest to chest and Ramsey waived his finger in his face.

Del Real’s attorney released a statement Thursday that said in part:

“Ramsey became extremely agitated and made aggressive motions and movements toward Mr. Del Real and then made inappropriate physical contact with Mr. Del Real.”

But Mike Ramsey says that Del Real is lying. Ramsey says he never touched Del Real and he was actually the one being threatened.

“Mr. Del Real suddenly decided that he wanted to throw down the gauntlet and started to threaten me,” says Ramsey. “That their would be political action taken against me.”

Both sides say they are considering further legal action.
