MONTREAL (CP) - Police have charged nine people and seized equipment and plants in an alleged marijuana-grow network that operated out of several homes both in the city and to the north.

The six men and three women were to appear in court Friday in St-Jerome, north of Montreal, to face several drug charges, said provincial police. Officers conducted seven raids Thursday in Montreal and six in communities in the Laurentians, said spokeswoman Chantal Mackels.

She said 6,850 marijuana plants were seized along with lamps and thermal pumps.

"It's a network in the sense that these people are not necessarily related family-wise, but they all know of each other," she said.

The suspects range in age from 26 to 46.

About 100 grams of processed marijuana was also seized along with computer equipment, said Mackels.

Police had been investigating the alleged ring since February.
